Director of Supportive Housing - Experience with Mental Health and Homeless Population

JOB TITLE:           DIRECTOR OF SUPPORTIVE HOUSING

REPORTS TO:     ASST. VICE PRESIDENT OF WESTCHESTER HOUSING PROGRAMS

SUMMARY:  Under supervision of the AVP, the Director of Supportive Housing is responsible for leading the design, planning, implementation, and evaluation of Westhab’s permanent and transitional supportive housing program portfolio, which includes both scattered-site and single-site programs.  The Director supervises service coordinators and oversees the coordination and delivery of services provided by Westhab supportive services staff, as well as external clinical staff and community partners.  The Director of SH ensures that program participants receive services in the most efficient and respectful manner in accordance with best practices.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises service staff and ensures that the services being delivered meet each participant’s unique and changing needs.
  • Serves as subject-matter expert on supportive housing (including housing for veterans, the disabled, the previously incarcerated, and young adults), staying abreast of latest research and ensuring programming aligns to evidence-based program models.
  • Develops new and innovative programming.
  • Performs program evaluation and recommends modifications to better meet resident needs, community needs and funding requirements.
  • Oversees the timely and accurate collection and entry of all data needed for tracking performance (ie. HMIS).
  • Creates and develops relationships with local, county and state agencies, other non-profit service providers, and other key stakeholders. Participates in inter-agency coalitions and task forces.
  • Pursues new grant and contract opportunities. Researches funding opportunities for SH expansion.
  • Actively contributes to strategic planning and implementation as a member of Westhab’s Senior Staff Team.
  • Works collaboratively with the Director of Compliance & Quality Assurance to conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with agency and funders’ requirements and regulations.
  • Oversees the timely and accurate submission of monthly, quarterly and annual reports to the Finance Dept., Contractors, WC DSS, OTDA and HUD.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Masters in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field required. Minimum of 3-5 years of management and supervisory experience in homeless/supportive housing services with an emphasis on mental health.  Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.  Strong organization, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.  The ideal candidate will have a results-driven style, personal accountability and the ability to identify and implement creative approaches to breaking the barriers facing Westhab’s SH residents.
