Service Coordinator - Mount Vernon, NY

Summary: Responsible for the daily operations and delivery of services to families to meet NYS OTDA Tier II, area DSS, and Westhab requirements/expectations.  Works as on-site lead to coordinate daily operations of shelter staff.  Must facilitate coordination between Youth Services Coordinator, Security Manager, Facility Manager, Casework staff and Childcare as well as on-site providers.  Directly responsible for Administration and Social Service Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and organizes a range of casework services to fulfill Tier II and/or area DSS requirements.
  • Develops and carries our monitoring systems to guarantee quality and efficiency of casework services.
  • Identify potential areas for growth in case management staff.  Coaches, teaches, or refers caseworkers as needed to improve on potential areas.
  • Ensures that outside service providers deliver quality services in accordance with Tier II regulations, inter-agency contracts and agreements.
  • Coordinates with the Facility Manager to ensure the physical plant operates safely, comfortably, in compliance with state, county, and state regulations and policies
  • Assess needs of families and make recommendations for outreach to other agencies or internal development of programs.
  • Recommends in conjunction with the Director of Homeless Services: service staff hiring, promotion, corrective and termination decisions in conformance with agency personnel policies.
  • Responsible for weekly and monthly Westhab quality assurance and statistical reports as well as reporting on grant programs as needed.
  • Liaison with DSS, schools, service providers, to ensure continuum of care for families as well as to guarantee follow-up in a timely fashion.
  • Provide clinical expertise to caseworkers in identifying all family members’ needs and developing comprehensive plan to address these needs with clear time frames.
  • Conducts regular formal performance appraisals for direct reports and recommends salary adjustments.
  • Represents Westhab publicly with other service providers, government agencies and local county groups.
  • Sees that all records and documents are handled and stored in a confidential manner
  • Submits accurate, timely reports as requested.

Education and Experiential Requirements:

Master’s Degree in social work or related field preferred and four years experience in supervision and management capacity. Strong computer, verbal, and written communication skills required. Ability to plan, to organize, and evaluate scope of services.
