Lead Maintenance Mechanic - NYC Shelter $45-50K

JOB TITLE:            LEAD MAINTENANCE MECHANIC                                            

FLSA:                     NON-EXEMPT

DEPARTMENT:      SERVICES– FACILITIES

REPORT TO:         FACILITY MANAGER

LOCATION:           MANHATTAN, NY

               

SUMMARY:  The Lead Mechanic supervises and participates in the general repair of all facility systems of a 140 bed men’s homeless shelter.  This role must be able to perform and train subordinates in the repair of all plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry fields

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains work schedules for a mechanic staff.
  • Gives out daily work assignments and follows up to ensure their timely completion.
  • Escorts outside contractors, inspectors, and other visitors around the facility.
  • Maintains proper inventory of all tools, supplies and equipment within the department.
  • Accepts and verifies any incoming orders upon delivery.
  • Fills in as needed as a driver for any emergency transports, supply pick-ups or equipment transports as directed.
  • Performs daily inspections of mechanical equipment and common areas of the facility, ensuring that all lighting, fire extinguishers and exit signs are in good working order.
  • Meets with Facility Manager daily to discuss current issues and status on previous requests made.
  • Directs and participates in the completion of preventative maintenance checks, as per direction from the Facility Manager.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or GED with English and Math skills required.  Technical or trade school a plus.  5 years related work experience required.  Must have valid NYS Driver license & clean record.
